Am taking a break to organise my gigantic stash of digital kits. It is very important that I can see quickly what I have, so that I am able to maximise the use of all the papers, elements, alphas, etc on my layouts. You might have noticed that I mix stuff from all kits on my layouts depending on the color and look I have in mind. And I've a good old system of organising them: I print out all the previews and put them in a ring file! haha, sophiscated right? This is what it looks like:
I know there are programs to do this, but I guess I'm stuck in my old ways. It works for me! But it takes me a while to do all the previews, so I tend to let it run a few months, and then do them all at a go. And because I'm also a great freebie hunter, plus I do buy kits I really like (I think more than 80% of my layouts are from free stuff though) my ring file is now 1 inch thick!! It's my treasure trove :) !
How do you organise your digital kits ?
Last week I posted the wonderful poem by Mother Teresa, and Christie shared with me this lovely layout she made. I just love it! Thanks, Christie!
And here are some layouts by awesome ladies that I must share with you: These first two are by Sarah Belle of the moms of multiples club that she is in. Aren't they absolutely darlings? And Sarah makes awesome kits that she generously shares on her blog, check her blog out here
Here's an awesome layout by Livia who made this layout of her hometown Brazil - breathtaking, isn't it? And finally four layouts by the talented Melinda Staley, see the wonderful and rich details on all her gorgeous layouts!
Thanks ladies for allowing me to share your talents with us, and encouraging me. It really makes me very happy to see layouts made with my templates, you know :P
Anyways I was thinking to make you a quick template by tweaking one of the earlier ones, and then got carried away using it to make a layout for myself. (So far I've always made the layout then the template). It was fast! All done in an hour! So here is my latest layout and a 12 x 12 template for those of you who prefer them. Enjoy!
>Credits: paper by Chere Kaye, alpha by Natalie Braxton, chain, stamped star, and denim star, all from Miss Mint's WildWeekend This template will be available in the store soon
You're so sweet Yin to share your talent with us yet again! Thank you so much!!
ReplyDeleteAh, I'm a organization freak. And I love to share my opinions so your question made me practically trip over my fingers as I raced to the bottom of your long post to find and click on the "comment" button.
ReplyDeleteI have a gazillion kits and miscellaneous freebie elements. I keep kits I like together but make a 2nd copy of the kit and divide it up into several folders.
I have a "backgrounds" folder with subfolders for each color.
I have an "elements" folder with subfolders for a dozen common types of elements (flowers, doodles, corners, tags, journaling, etc).
Since I love to be matchy-matchy with colors in my pages and photos, I go first to the background folder to find the perfect Green (or blue or red or whatever). The file name usually reminds me what kit it came from so I can go look at that kit if I want. Then I go to my "frames" folder to pick a frame. And so on and so on.
I think it works pretty well! Some of my older kits I never use because they're not really my style so I'm starting to delete those kits just to keep the whole collection from getting too large and overwhelming.
Now, aren't you glad you asked?
:)

Thank you Yin for another fantastic template. I use ACDSee to organize all of my digital supplies and it works well and is very easy to use.
ReplyDeleteOh I thought I was the only one doing the binder thing, I'm so glad I'm not alone! I know you can buy software to do it for you but I like to see it all together, thumb through it, etc but I thought the "pros" were all using those programs so I'm glad to know someone I admire does it the same way! :) Thanks for the freebie too, I love it but then I always love your stuff!
ReplyDeleteI just found you {somehow?} and am so glad I did! Geesh, I wish I could get all my pages printed out! What a wonderful idea. Love your templates.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing your template and the way that you organize your files.
ReplyDeleteLove this template. I'm always looking for templates that have one focal photo and room for lots more so this is great. And I have a free template on my blog for you if you're interested:

Thanks for the great template, and happy organising! :)
ReplyDeleteAww! Thanks for posting my life poem thing :) All the layouts you shared are awesome and thanks for the new template!
ReplyDeleteAs for how I organize my digital stash - I kind of do the same thing except I don't print it. I organize everything in iphoto, and I have one album called "previews" that I put every preview into so I can look through them to see what would work with my photos... so, basically the same thing! Although I do love your 3-ring idea!
Organize? What's that? Oh, I remember, that's something I need badly to work on! I do have some previews in a binder, along with the kits backed up on CDs or DVDs stored with them, but mostly I have too many goodies and am clueless as to where and how to find them when I need them. I should have started out doing it the right way, but I didn't, and now I feel swamped.
ReplyDeleteBUT thank you so much for another great multi-photo template and for sharing your layout. I really liked it!
Thank you! Each day I think I have too many templates, and I WON'T download any more. And then I see another one from you that I must have, and I start downloading again..... :) Thanks for such great templates!

Thanks for sharing your organization ideas. I also love looking at all the layouts other people do with templates. It gives me inspiration in my own layouts. Thanks for your great design style!
ReplyDeleteI hope to one day get my digital files organized using Picasa so I can search on colors, types of embellishments, etc. Someday...
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing this template with us. I absolutely LOVE single page layouts that have room for lots of pictures. :-)
Thank you so much for your wonderful templates/freebies.
ReplyDeleteLove'em !
Hello!
ReplyDeleteFirst of all, thanks for showing my lo... So cool to see it here! ;)
And second: Oooo...I'm jealous of your folder! lol
My stuff is in total chaos! I really have to start organizing it somehow...the problem is that the stash is already so big and I can't find the 'courage' to start organizing... lol
Thank you so much for another great template! I just love your stuff!!!
Here's a link to my latest layout using one of your templates:

Thanks for another template Yin. I'm in aww of your binder. I have forever wondered how to truly organize my stash. I love this idea. It seems so much easier that organizing and tagging things in a program. I think I may just have to give this idea a try. Thanks again.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the Yin Template. I have wanted to locate the YIN person who puts together these templates but off of one site, there was no contact button so I am glad I had the opp today.
ReplyDeleteI love all your templates. I like to do many photos on a page and so do you. Thanks for giving me tips on how to do so.
THanks
Thank you for the template!
ReplyDeletei have recently been trying to organize my things a little better but have not found the perfect way for me yet-
i have everything in folds- but i think i need to take the organization a step or 2 further- I like the idea of having it printed in a binder - I did this sort of thing with page ideas when i was a paper scrapper i think i might try this
i posted a LO i did recently with a template you made click on my blog link to view it
Thank you so much for the template, Yin. I love it and your layout, too. I use ACDSee to organize my templates and kits. I am finding elements and papers that I had forgotten about. My organizing is a work in progress.
ReplyDeleteYin -
ReplyDeleteI just had to come back in here and thank you profusely for your beautiful multi-photo templates!
They really are so unique + you're so generous to share them.
I've bookmarked your blog-store + will be a constant visitor! :)
I love using my PSE organizer for my papers and elements. I use the "collections" to see my whole kit together and the "tags" to tag each element by item and color. If I want a blue paper, I can click both tags and find one or two that really speak to me and if they are from a kit, I can jump over to the collection to see if there is anything else I want to use from it.
ReplyDeleteIf I want a frame, I click on that tag and all the different frames come into view.
The nice thing about organizer is that you just highlight your item(s) you want to use and click the edit button at the top to take you to your editor.
Thank you so much for the template - I love using them!
Great idea, and thank you for the template!
ReplyDeleteThanks for another template - I'll be using it soon I'm sure. It's time for my mother's of multiples newsletter (again already) so I've got about 3 LOs done and 4 more to go, and I've used your templates for all of them so far. As soon as I'm all done I'll link you up again.
ReplyDeleteThanks too for the nice comments about my kits - I truly hope that people like them.
Yin, I've never commented before, but I just wanted to tell you that when I see another template from you it makes me really happy! I enjoy your style. And I didn't know you had a shop! Now I do and that's good, too! Thanks.
ReplyDeleteI just downloaded a lot of your templates. Thank you so much for sharing your talent. Your layouts are beautiful, too!
ReplyDeleteLynn
Thank you. I love this one.
ReplyDeleteHello! I just found your blog through some friends, and I have to say I just spent the last 30 minutes downloading all your SWEET templates! Thanks so much for sharing your talent with us!
ReplyDeleteHi, Yin! I really like how you print off everything you have and organize it that way. I organize everything much like Donna does.
ReplyDeleteI'm not just trying to flatter you when I tell you how much I love your templates. I've stopped using all other templates, including my own, because yours meet my scrapping needs so precisely. Thank you so much for sharing and for making more available for sale as well. Keep 'em comin! I'm going to buy them all and have me a complete Simply Yin collection! Check out my blog to see my most recent pages. They're ALL Simply Yin templates. :)
I don't have such a great organization method, but it's always fun to see how other people do it. The LOs you shared are lovely and thank you for another wonderful template!
ReplyDeleteHi Yin!

thanks is all I can say!
Thanks for sharing your organizing technique. I loved your notebook so much I made one of my own and I love it! Your templates are great :)
ReplyDeleteHi gf. I really need to get back into blogging and scrapping again. It's been a strange summer, LOL. Do love this template (as I do all others). And the layouts made from your templates is gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteAs for organizing.... What is that, LOL.... I actually started a database at one time using the previews of the kits, but it was making the database to large and unstable as it was linking to the pictures. I think Pan was telling me that they can now be embedded and maybe I'll try that again.
i LOVE your layouts! i check back here all the time and use them ALL the time. i tried to create my own but it didnt work out so well, im going to have to rely on you. thanks for sharing them!!!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for sharing your templates. Such great work!
ReplyDeleteI just love these multi-photo templates.
ReplyDeleteUntil about a month ago, I had NO organization for my digi stuff. I just put everything on CD, without unzipping them, and labeled the CD, usually not in great detail, though. Now every time I unzip a file, I put a copy of the "folder" jpg into a folder. However, I'm thinking I need to print them out like you do, so I can flip through a notebook versus looking at them on the computer. Thanks for your idea!!
Is this link broken?
