You Rock Together

Fun Times
We are really looking forward to our trip now, got the hotels and flights booked, phew! We're visiting my brother who is living and working in Washington DC, and will take in NYC and Orlando too! It's a huge burden on our pockets but we decided to do it anyway, since the chance may not come by again! Tink, I will definitely wave! Are you near Orlando? Can you imagine, me coming so close to you all? Shawna, I wish we have time to visit Atlanta, it's so on the way!
Actually I do need some advice if any one can help:
- should I take the train from DC to NYC? how about by bus?
- we'll be in NYC in Dec, do we need something as warm as down jackets? do we need scarves, hats?
- besides the usual, is there anything you recommend we do or visit in NYC, DC or Orlando?

Right now the boys are having final exams, it is a big deal in Singapore, I do think we are guilty of "hot-housing" the children somewhat, and I try not to go overboard, but I do spend a lot of time revising with Jared especially (Ryan is pretty cool about revising on his own). I know, he is only eight, but he needs to sit through one and a half hour exams for each subject and the school streams them according to the results for the next school year! This is a huge part of my mothering at least for these few years, hhmmm, I should take some photos to make a layout...

We do take breaks and have fun of course, and I did find time to make this:
I love how the boys are really good with each other, they have always counted each other as their best friend, and I hope it continues always to be that way!

  2. We lived by DC for several years. I recommend the Library of Congress if you like architecture and amazing buildings. Also, if the Eastern Market on Capitol Hill is back (there was a fire), go there.
    Thanks for the template!

  10. I would guess NYC is pretty cold this time of the year but I can't say if you'd need down but here towards Atlanta we're already down in to the 60's for highs and 45 for lows at night... So it depends I know when we went to Boston last Jan I had 3-4 layers but I'm form where it's 110 in the summer, lol

As far as between the Bus and the Train I personally don't think the buses are as safe as they used to be in the last several years, especially if it will be noticeable your a tourist... just my 2 cents though. since I don't live in the DC area. I would chose the Train if it's not much more costly for safety.

I think you won't regret enjoying yourselves especially since it's kind of a once in a lifetime experience for all of you. HAVE A BLAST!!! bills will always be a part of life, lol!!!

    Blessings & Godspeed!

  13. What a trip. Sounds like you are going to have loads of fun. We are about 8 hours away from Orlando :(

But we go every year (now it's in May instead of October). I recommend Disney World (of course, lol); but if you have the chance Universal is nice for a day trip (not much to do or see after the first day or two there). Then there is Sea World.

For something a little more education, there is the Orlando Musuem of Art, the Science Center and the Harry P. Leu Gardens. These I have been to, but just about an hour east of Orlando is the Kennedy Space Center (which I haven't made it to).

Hope you have a great time during your visit.

  14. Thanks for the cute template. I will also visit NYC in December. I come there for the last 3 years and I always visit around December - 2005 was a bit of snow and cold, 2006 was great sunny weather and not cold at all...Curious, what weather will be there this year :) Best is to check the weather via internet, I guess.

  18. Thanks for the template-it will be fun to use.

As for your trip, Washington DC is easy to get around on the Metra and there are the free Smithsonian museums and monuments. The spy museum is a bit expensive, but well done.

I think you can take the Amtrack from DC to NYC. The Amtrack website will give you schedules and fares. Book ahead for the best fare and check for discounts. I think you sometimes can fly cheaply too.

My family likes Sea World and Universal in Orlando. There are often multiday "deals" for them and check on the trolly that goes between the two parks and stops at the hotels along the way. If your children have not been to Disney, then it may be a must see.

    Have fun!

  20. I live about 20 minutes outside of DC. I recommend going to the "National Mall". There you will see the war memorials, the Washington monument, and the White house. The Smithsonian has about 15 museums (free) so you can visit the ones you like. I like the Air & Space. Also, I like the spy museum although it has an admission fee.

I would recommend taking the train to NY or even looking into a cheap airline flight. I don’t like taking the bus. I would drive before taking the bus and I hate driving in NY.

Dressing in NY is tricky; you must be prepared for anything. Last year, I went in December and it was bitterly cold. But the weekends before and after were comfortable. The key to dressing in NY is layers. Enjoy. Nikki

  23. Thanks for the great template. I used to live very near NYC and like a couple previous people have stated - it can vary a lot. I would definitely suggest scarves & hats, etc. It can be a biting cold! Toys R Us has a fun ferris wheel in the store and FAO Schwartz is also fun if you have kids along. I love seeing broadway shows and you can go to box offices or the ticket booth in Times Square the day of the show and get really cheap tickets to some of them.

    Have a fun trip!

  30. Thank you so much for all of your wonderful templates! I love them all so much, especially this one-very versitile. My husband has gotten a little addicted too, so he will like this one since it is pretty simple and doesn't have a lot of flowery stuff on it! =)
