Be Yourself Day

Tonight our news is full of the US Election results! Although we do not know much about US politics, we followed this elections with interest. We pray that Mr Obama will lead with wisdom and understanding and insight and foresight. What a historic time we live in! And amidst all of this, we carry on our ordinary lives, :)

Yesterday was "Be Yourself Day" in local schools. Instead of the school uniform they wear everyday, the boys get to choose to dress up as anything they like, preferably dressing up with recycled stuff instead of bought costumes. We don't celebrate Halloween here, so this promised to be fun.

True to form (or rather, their personalities), Ryan did not want to dress up but went as 'himself', donning his usual weekend clothes. Jared, on the other hand, had high hopes of going as "obi one kenobi", and drew up an elaborate list of costume bits, including a brown 'cloak' I was supposed to sew for him and a beard he was going to devise out of cotton wool and wires! After much trying out, he went as Luke Skywalker, wearing my t-shirt, his brother's socks, my belt, and the rest of his own stuff. He was rather pleased with it, except that he did not have blond hair and wore glasses. :)

This brings me to this week's layout from Orlando, this one where Jared got to fulfill his dreams and got a stint at the Jedi Academy where they train padawan. It was definitely the highlight of the trip for him! Can you spot him? He's one of the tiniest one in orange T and blue jeans.

Speaking of being yourself, on dh's birthday two weeks ago, his young colleagues got him a new 'new age' man's bag, how do I describe it, like a much smaller messenger bag, that had a rounded bottom. It had a flap that was velcro closured too! I love my dh for many things, one of which is him being a man, leaving the dressing up and carrying bags to me! So I teased him no end on his 'carrying a sissy bag', and when Ryan came into the conversation, he asked, "what are you talking about?" and topped it off by "oh, you mean this purse?" !!!! Even dh laughed out loud at that one! Oh, he is still carrying the 'purse', by the way.. he says he is man enough :)

The next two layouts were of the day we spent at Island of Adventure, though we did not take any of the extreme thrill rides, we were thrilled alright, and had loads of fun!

  3. Hi Yin! Thank you so much for the wonderful templates! i just love your templates, scattered or not!
Thank you for your prayers concerning this nation and our leaders. It was so encouraging for me to read your post and realize that others are praying! For that i am eternally grateful! God bless you!

  4. Thank you, thank you!
For me it depends on the pictures. If I have a lot of pics that are similar I like the more scattered layout. If the pics have more variety, I like 'em lined up more. And it depends on the feel of the layout and the event or moment I'm scraping.
Thank you SO much for sharing your creativity and your templates!

  5. Thank you for another great template. Just like you, I like both the scattered tilted ones, and the more straight line ones.

  7. Thanks so much for the template! I prefer the photos all over the place, or clustered, but not "in line" with each other. ;)

  8. Thank you so much for the freebie! I like some photos to be scattered and some lined up, it depends on the mood of the photos. I like anything you do! I appreciate too how affordable your templates are.

  10. If I have 12+ photos, I like them to be more orderly (but not perfectly straight) so that the layout doesn't detract from the photos. For less than 12, I like them to be a bit more skewed.

  11. I love all your templates but it seems the scattered frames seem to be the ones I've used more often. Guess it depends on what I'm scrapping!

Thanks so much for sharing! Anita

  12. Thanks for the template, Yin! I do pages with both scattered and lined up pictures. I'm tending more towards the scattered layouts these days probably though.
Thanks for sharing your layouts with us, I love seeing them!

  14. I love your templates and appreciate our sharing them so generously. I. like some of the other posters, like the photos scattered and lined up. But mostly I am drawn to the scattered look, I think. Thanks for asking.

  17. I love both! Depends on the mood of the photos. Thanks so much! And thank for your prayers for our leaders, please don't stop!

  18. I like both but even when I do a layout without a template I do tend to put them at angles. I did the same thing with paper too. Probably I just can't seem to get them straight and even. Thanks for the template and I just picked up several more from you shop. These are great. I loved your layouts as well.

  19. I like the scattered one. They have a more hand-made look because I could never gt things straight when I paper scrapped and used the angles on purpose so it didn't matter. I found but I liked the feel of the pages better.

There are some pages and layouts where I really do want to be able to have them straight too, however, so I do pages both ways.

    Thanks for the great template!

  20. Generally I like them scattered but sometimes the photos just call for a more orderly layout.

  22. Thank you so much for another beautiful template! The pictures of Jared are so cute and the idea of your husband and his "purse" is funny! Thanks for your kind thoughts about the new U.S. president. As far as templates go, I love two-page ones, and I like both skewed and straight frames. The one thing I prefer is that the photos not go from one page to the other, as I find it jarring once the pages are in an album because there's a gap between their edges. But no prob - I just move them over myself before I start adding my pics, papers, etc. You rock, Yin!

  23. I wish I had found your blog sooner! I am on my last 3 pages of a 20 page memory book of a trip my husband and I took this summer to Singapore with 24 other people! So you can imagine that my pages include multiple pictures for sure. It would have been so wonderful to have used these templates. They are wonderful. Oh well now I have an excuse to make another book right? Thank you for sharing these templates.

  24. Hi Yin, love your layouts, thanks for the Templates, you are one of a few people who uses so many pics in a LO, most people use 1 or 3, and I like to use 5 or 6 at least. I like them scattered or orderly it just depends on the mood the pics feel like, thanks again, Simone

  26. I love your templates - I find that when left to my own devices, I tend to line things up. But-- the "skewed" look is great, and I love using your templates when I have lots of photos to share on a layout!

Thank you again for sharing your talent!

  27. This is my first time to your blog - I came when I saw a link to the freebie template. Thanks for the template - it is a lovely gift.

But even more, thanks for the great LOs of your trip to the US. I live in DC and spend a couple weekends in NY every year. You have reminded me how beautiful Washington is. The mall, the Library of Congress, Great Fall, and more. Thanks so much. I feel like I missed a friend's visit, but of course, we don't know each other. ;-)

  28. Yin, thank you for your prayers for our country. Thank you, too, for the template. I like photos both ways but maybe more often scattered.

  29. Thanks for the award - that is so sweet of you to think of me.

I saw your layout in Creating Keepsakes too - how neat to see someone's work that you knew from their blog.

I love all your templates - I will use them no matter what, but I prefer the skewed ones - I get handed a jumble of photos so its easy just to jumble them in the LO.

  33. Thank you for another awesome template! I normally don't like skewed because I can't do it well enough for it to look right. However, I'll use skewed if I'm using one of your templates, because they look great!

  34. I just LOVE your templates. Our family just came back from a vacation in Galveston Texas and I wanted to put a hardcover book together with one consistant look. Your templates are going to make this EXTREMELY easy for me. Thank you so much. I look forward to sharing :)
